Dog Mom Spirit Animal

When I was putting together the look for this photoshoot I considered a lot of things. How the colors of the mural matched my shorts, lighting, Lucy’s collar and leash, what shoes I would wear, etc. What I didn’t think about is the meaning of this mural. Elephants are very symbolic creatures and in many cultures they represent good luck and strength, two qualities that every dog mom needs! I’ve decided it’s my official dog mom spirit animal! You can find your dog mom spirit animal in unexpected places. This mural is on a pothole filled one-way street in a neighborhood I don’t usually go to (and that Lucy’s definitely never been to!). Keep your eyes peeled for this lucky creature as it watches over you and your pups!

This mural is by Baron Batch, who paints elephants all over the place. Now that I’ve designated the elephant my official dog mom spirit animal, I’m going to have to hunt down more of his murals for photos with Lucy. The beauty of the mural and our dog mom-doggy love is highlighted by Sarah Collins Photography‘s amazing skills! I just love how the color pops on these images. Sarah really captured Lucy and I so well!

If you’ve been following me on social media recently, you may have seen that my older Lab, Lola, isn’t doing very well. She’s no longer able to walk on her own and is having a lot of issues because of that. I’ve spent the last six weeks so devoted to her, putting all of my energy into her health, happiness and comfort. A few weeks ago my friend Leslie of Juju offered to read my tarot cards. She used the Wild Unknown Spirit Animal deck and in the reading I pulled the Elephant card. Leslie thought this represented Lola and after doing some research I’m not surprised!

As a spirit guide, an Elephant’s mantra is “family first”, knowing that not all family is bound by blood. Lola and I are definitely family. I also read that when you choose the Elephant as your guide, you may be drawn to care for the elders of your tribe. “When one member of an Elephant herd is injured, the others will risk their own lives to get their fallen comrade to safety.”

I feel so lucky that this elephant presented itself to me in my tarot reading and while working on the photos in this post. After researching the meaning more, I feel like I have some back up protection on my side while I take care of my senior girl, Lola.

I’m wearing awesome Thakoon pleated pink shorts. Rick Owens top. Melissa sandals picked up on my Mexico City trip! Jewelry by RocksBox. Lucy’s collar is by CollarDoos, she’s been getting a lot of wear out of it this Summer, what a great buy!
