The Best Dog Friendly Airbnbs in Pittsburgh: Reviews from a local dog mom!

Are you planning a trip to Pittsburgh with your dog? Finding the best dog-friendly apartment rentals or hotels can be hard, especially if you have a big dog! Many places don’t allow dogs over 35 pounds. As a dog mom to two labradors, that just won’t do! I get so many requests from readers for recommendations on where to stay with their dogs when they’re in the Steel City. So I did the research for you and found the very best dog-friendly Airbnbs in Pittsburgh.

Unlike other sites that just list pet friendly rentals, I personally reached out to each of these property owners to gauge how welcoming they are to dogs of all sizes. The six private homes in this post are all owned by super kind, dog-loving Pittsburghers who design their rentals with you and your pup in mind. I wouldn’t hesitate to book a weekend getaway or long term stay with any of them!

Don’t you hate it when you’re searching for the perfect Airbnb or hotel and realize they only allow little dogs under 25 pounds? That’s not the case with any of these places! I did the legwork for you and made sure that you and your dog will be very happy at each rental. I took into consideration if places had elements that I know my dogs don’t like such as spiral staircases or a sleeping loft that the dogs can’t access. Those are places I wouldn’t book, so I don’t recommend them to you either.

Another element I considered when I put this list is how well I know each of these Pittsburgh neighborhoods. All of these dog friendly AirBnbs are in walkable areas close to pet-friendly amenities like parks, trails, breweries and more! In each property review I made a few recommendations fo dog friendly places you can go to nearby. Oh, and each rental is one where you have the entire place. As a single dog mom, those are the only kinds of places I book on AirBnb (safer for me and the dogs!).

Dog Friendly Airbnbs Close to Downtown Pittsburgh

There are so many great dog friendly things to do in the Downtown area. Many of the fancy hotels allow dogs and are happy to handout fresh treats (stop in the Fairmont near Market Square for that!). You’re also walking distance to PNC Park which hosts Pirates Pup Nights at every Tuesday home game! While the dog friendly hotels downtown are great, sometimes you want access to a kitchen and the extra privacy you get at an AirBnB. Plus, AirBnbs can often be more affordable than staying at a hotel for several days.

Dog-Friendly Historic Home Rental near PNC Park

This fully renovated historic home has 2 bedrooms and sleeps 4 people. The host, Doug, welcomes well behaved dogs. So far he’s said that their owners have all been very respectful of his home and very clean. “I have 160-year-old floors, only a couple of area rugs, and few dog-level knick-knacks to be concerned about, so there is little chance of damage!” The only dog rule here is to kennel them if you plan on leaving them home alone at all during your stay. Check it out on Airbnb.

UPDATE APRIL 2022: I’m sorry, this unit does not appear to be listed on AirBnb at this time. I’ll leave it in here incase the owners re-list it. The Northside dog amenities listed below are still worth visiting.

Dog amenities nearby: Allegheny Commons Park is a large, nice city park just a block or so away. The park has a designated off-leash area (but FYI it’s not fenced). You’re also close to RandyLand, a local art landmark that allows dogs.

Cozy + Modern Dog Friendly Apartment near Downtown Pittsburgh

This affordable 1 bedroom apartment in Uptown sleeps 4 thanks to a pullout couch, and it comes complete with a dog bed and bowls for you to use. The owner, Jaclyn, has a black lab herself so she’s happy to welcome people and their pets when they travel. “I know it can be hard or expensive to find people to watch your dogs when you travel, even for a short time, so I’m happy to offer dog friendly rentals“. Check it out on Airbnb.

I personally took my dogs Burt and Lucy to check out Jaclyn’s rental and take some photos to share with you. There’s plenty of free parking on the street

Dog amenities nearby: Get some great city views walking from this apartment. Or walk across the Birmingham Bridge and over to the DoubleWide Grill on the South Side where they have a dedicated dog patio. While you’re on the Southside, there’s a fenced dog park along the riverfront trail that’s very nice (plus the riverfront trail itself!).

Dog Friendly Houses for Rent in Pittsburgh Neighborhoods

Need more space for your dog or looking to stay in Pittsburgh for a long-term vacation? There are some wonderful pet friendly houses for rent around town. These are four of my favorites, all owned by Josh who told me that, “having pet friendly houses is one of my criteria when purchasing a home. I bought two of the houses just because they had a fully fenced in yard and the other homes had to have outdoor spots for animals and be in close proximity of parks.”

Josh doesn’t charge a pet fee or have any breed or size restrictions. He’s also got really great style! Each home has some very Instagrammable spots to have a photoshoot with your dog!

Fun, Colorful Pittsburgh Airbnb Rental Perfect for Groups with Dogs

I love the funky decor of this house! You’ll want to pose your pup in front of the palm leaf wallpaper and cheery yellow door ASAP. This house is just minutes from tons of dog friendly stuff on the North Side including the stadiums. Since it sleeps up to 12 people you can bring along a bunch of friends and have an awesome Pittsburgh weekend with your dog by your side! Check it out on Airbnb. This place has tons of positive reviews, too!

Dog amenities nearby: Federal Galley is a cool restaurant that has a giant wrap around patio. The staff there loves dogs and will bring you a water bowl. It’s right on the edge of Allegheny Commons Park, so take a stroll with your pup after lunch. There’s even an off-leash dog area in the park that you can check out.

Cozy Dog Friendly Mt. Washington AirBnb House

This cozy house actually sleeps up to 10 people! And yes, your dog is invited! The rental house is a mile away from the Grandview Overlook and close to all Mt. Washington has to offer but is tucked away on a quiet street. Plus this rental has a backyard for your dog to enjoy. Check it out on Airbnb.

Dog amenities nearby: Emerald View Park is close by and features miles of trails that you can walk with your dog on-leash. I’m always surprised by how much wildlife is in that park considering how close you are to Downtown!

Big AirBnb House With A Yard + Nearby Park north of Downtown Pittsburgh

This pet friendly house is slightly removed from “the action” of Downtown Pittsburgh, but it’s in the beautiful neighborhood of Observatory Hill. The house is an eclectically decorated craftsman style home with a fenced in backyard for your pooch. The owner, Josh, has spent years collecting decorations and furniture to create an inviting fun space. With 5 bedrooms and 6 baths, you’ll have plenty of room to spread out with your friends and dogs! Check it out on Airbnb.

Dog amenities nearby: Definitely spend some time in Riverview Park where you can hike, enjoy the fenced in dog park and even watch an outdoor movie alongside your pup!

Best Dog Friendly Airbnbs in Millvale

The Best Pet Friendly AirBnb Rental House in Millvale

One of my favorite places to take Burt and Lucy is Grist House, a local brewery in Millvale. Sometimes I swear there are more dogs than people there! This rental house is just blocks away from Grist House and other great restaurants, bars and a French bakery. The owner, Josh, has worked hard to renovate and decorate in a cozy inviting way. As with all of his homes, I think you’ll enjoy the unique furniture and decor. Huge bonus for a vacation rental in the city: there’s a fenced in yard for your dog! Check it out on Airbnb.

Dog amenities nearby: Other than Grist House, you’ll also want to go to the Pittsburgh Food Truck Park where dogs are welcome and you can enjoy food from a bunch of different vendors. It’s located within walking distance and right along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail that your dog will love!

I have a blogger related question. For a post like this, did you actually have to take all of the photos yourself? Or did you use photos from AirBNB? And if AirBNB, did you have to ask permission? Thanks in advance for any help!

Great question! For this post I reached out to each property owner personally to get more info about how dog friendly their place really is and get some suggestions for dog friendly things within walking distance. One person invited me over to take my own photos which was awesome. Another took photos just for me to use and then a few of the places I used the images from Airbnb. But, definitley always ask permission before using anyone’s photos!

We stayed at Josh’s Millvale spot when we were transitioning to Pittsburgh! Our pug loved the sidewalked streets and the fenced in yard! Super cute and close to so many unique places in Millvale!
