If you’ve been following Wear Wag Repeat for a while, then you know Burt is our rescue lab. When I adopted Burt, the shelter told me he was 6 or 7 years old and didn’t know his exact birthday. At the time Lucy was six and a half, so roughly the same age. To make things easy I decided to give Burt the same birthday as Lucy so we could always celebrate together on February 6th. 

I didn’t realize at the time that Pet Supplies Plus designated the whole month of August as a birthday bash for adopted pups whose birthdays remain a mystery. Why limit yourself to one day, when you can have a whole birthday month?!

Dogust Celebrates Adopted Pups

We went to our local Pet Supplies Plus to check out their celebration of adopted pets and had the best time! There were puppy pools, a photo booth, birthday hats, cake for people and ice cream for dogs.

In addition to all of these fun activities, the most fun part was seeing how much everyone working at the store enjoyed seeing Burt and Lucy. One of the guys working that day, Jay, actually hand-fed Lucy her doggy ice cream while she stood in the puppy pool! Can you say spoiled?!

Another amazing thing I learned about Jay is that he has two pug puppies named Fran and Mr. Shefflied! Please tell me you get the reference! 

Everyone working that day was beyond nice and patient with us while I got the dogs in position in the photobooth and worked on “leave it” and “heal” while we walked around the store.

Pet Supplies Plus Supports Local Shelters

Since Pet Supplies Plus is all about giving back and supporting local pets, they also had two ways to support animal rescue in the store that day. Hancock County Animal Shelter had a table set up for donations and to promote free adoptions during the month of August. And at checkout, we were able to buy a bag of dog food to donate directly to the Beaver County Humane Society.
