One of the best things about living in Pittsburgh is that we get to experience all four seasons. In the Winter we all complain and try to get away to warmer climates, but I know that secretly everyone loves a coating of snow. Plus, it makes us appreciate the nice days even more! Right now we’re in the middle of a classic Pittsburgh Spring, where we get all four seasons over the course of 1 day! That’s when vests and booties come in handy. Lucy and I were exploring dog friendly downtown Pittsburgh in the perfect Spring outfit, ready for anything mother nature threw at me.
One of the best things about visiting downtown Pittsburgh is that there’s so much you can do with your dog! I feel like it’s all a best kept secret though because everyone is always so surprised how many places I can take Lucy! Our downtown is also great to visit on the weekend because it’s pretty quiet. You can walk around without too many crowds or noises that might startle your pup. It took some convincing (Lucy was a little apprehensive as you can see below), but once she got to see all the fun things to explore I could barely get her to leave!
Being a tourist (even in your own town) with your dog means that you need to bring along the essentials like treats and poop bags. I never leave home without them! This vest has great pockets to hold those things plus my phone for the inevitable Instagram moments.
Dog Friendly Downtown Pittsburgh
These are a few of our favorite dog friendly places to visit downtown. I also recommend just walking around. There’s a ton of public art, river front paths and bridges to give you and your dog something to see and do!
Mellon Square – Great place for people watching and lots of things to sniff
Point State Park – Big grassy park, perfect for picnicking and strolling around The Point. Try to resist going in the fountain, I think that’s frowned upon!
Omni William Penn – Lucy and I enjoyed brunch in the lobby! Check out the pet policy for staying overnight.
Hotel Monaco – Another great dog friendly decor with a million Instagrammable moments before you even leave the lobby. Try to check out the roof top for a new perspective of Downtown.
Market Square – Lots of restaurants with outdoor seating and dog friendly patios!
Outfit Details: Sweater, super old. Vest, Alexander Wang. Jeans, super old J. Crew. Boots, TopShop. Lucy’s collar and leash both from Petagogy.

I love this look – you never know when a spontaneous shower will appear in the burgh! <3
You seriously need to be prepared for ANYTHING with our weather!
We love Pittsburgh. Especially in winter as we are big Christmas fans! This year, we don’t have anyone to watch out 1 yr old chocolate lab and we’re planning to visit this weekend during our anniversary. Can you recommend winter things to do with dog this weekend downtown? We definitely plan to hit the holiday market, but any restaurants that have open heated outdoor patios and dog friendly? Thanks in advance!
Hi! Downtown there are some restaurants along Penn Avenue that have outdoor seating with heaters (last I checked!). If you go over to the North Shore there’s also Southern Tier that has a big outdoor dog friendly area.
Lovin’ Pittsburgh! This city is among the most liveable for humans and our four-legged buddies.
Exactly! We’re on all the human lists, just need to make our own dog lists I guess!
Looks great! and so quiet. Such lovely photos xx

Our Downtown is SO quiet on the weekends! Perfect for exploring with the dog!
Don’t forget weekend jaunts through the Strip District, where you can find anything you need from clothes to produce while you nosh on wonderful, ethnic street foods. Any Saturday you go there, you’ll meet dozens of happy dogs with their owners.
Very true! I will have to do a separate post about the Strip! Strip Meats has some of the best dog bones around!
Great guide but you forgot the most dog friendly place! Heinz Field! Go Dawgs! Cleveland Rocks!
