One of my favorite things to do is brainstorm adorable couples costume ideas for dog mom and dog duos. I’ve already posted about three spectacular costumes with Lucy (you can see them here, here and here). But, now that we have Burt in the family I had the interesting challenge to come up with a group costume for the three of us. It’s a matching costume for me and the dogs!

This Three Musketeers costume works great for anyone with two dogs. It would also work for a couple and a dog, or someone with a baby and a dog. All you need is a trio that sticks up for each other!

Halloween With Dogs: The Three Musketeers Costume

What I ended up creating for the three of us is The Three Musketeers! And I don’t think it could have turned out any better. Not only is this a super fun and adorable costume, but I love how the message of The Three Musketeers aligns with our family values – all for one and one for all! Me and my dogs are a package deal and we’re always looking out for each other. That’s why this costume works so well!

Another interesting idea I want to put out there for you is that you don’t have to buy costumes made for dogs in order for them to fit. Keep reading to see what I mean!

I love dressing up with my best furry friends for Halloween every year. It’s nice when the whole family can get involved with a three-person costume like this.

Where to Buy Unique Dog Costumes for Halloween

Just because I’m looking for dog Halloween costumes doesn’t mean that I have to buy just from the pet department! Especially when I want to create a matching look for all three of us, it makes more sense to get all the costumes from the same place.

For our Three Musketeers looks, I got all the costumes from the kids department at Party City! The dogs are both wearing Size Medium and I’m wearing a Large! It worked perfectly with these costumes because they’re basically ponchos that velcro on the sides. It made the sizing really flexible! This is great for large dogs like my labrador. I also have to say, you can’t beat the price of kids costumes! These cost under $17 per dog.

When you’re buying packaged kids’ Halloween costumes they often come with extra accessories. These came with the hats (and felt feathers), and boot covers. None of us used the boot covers though.

For my costume, I used my own flat over the knee boots and my own black hat since it was a lot nicer than the felt ones. And the finishing touch was the mustache and goatee! It was so fun to wear and feel like I was completely in disguise!

DIY Dog Tip: To keep the hats on the dogs in their three musketeers costume, I poked holes in the sides of the brim of the hat and ran an elastic ribbon through to make a chin strap. This kept the hats on my pups really well. Keep in mind with any pet costume that you should take time to familiarize your dog with the items before hitting the Halloween pawty.

With our costumes every year, the first thing I like to do is bring them out in September. That way my dogs have a chance to sniff and check out the costume. Then I use lots of healthy treats as rewards when we try on the costume. A lot of dogs do not like to wear hats, so it might take more training (and more treats) to work up to that.

Take it easy and use lots of treats to ensure that you and your four-legged friends have a happy and fun Halloween!
