This time of year it’s so easy to get swept up in shopping, parties and taking the best photos of your dog for your social media feed. I know I’m easily swayed by all of those things! We often forget the spirit of the season is about sharing the warmth of our hearts with others. My favorite way to do this is keep pets warm with the gift of love by donating blankets. There are shelter pets all over the country waiting to find their furever homes while living in concrete kennels. So many of these pets are lucky to be taken care of by wonderfully caring and selfless staff and volunteers, but these facilities can always use as much help as they can get.
I work with a few local animal shelters throughout the year and see first hand how every donation helps. One of the easiest ways to help is to find things around your house that you no longer need or want that can make a difference in these pets’ lives. I’m talking about blankets and towels. Most shelters have a list online of items they looking for, look up your local shelter online or give them a call to see if they can use your old towels and blankets. Here’s what the Animal Rescue League in Pittsburgh is looking for.
To generate some attention for this cause and how easy it is to give back and make a difference, I’m sharing Lucy’s Christmas Card outtakes. She looks so cute wrapped up in this scarf, and she’s lucky enough to be cuddled up on the couch keeping my feet warm as I write these. But when you look at these cute photos, think of the pets that are in need of some extra love this year and thinking about donating blankets or towels you no longer use.
I’ve put aside several blankets and towels with holes and bleach stains that are perfect for the shelter! In the photo below Lucy is howling about how excited she is to help her furry friends. Can you help by making a towel and blanket donation to your local animal shelter? Double check their hours, but I bet you can make a donation this week!
Let’s give pets the gift of warmth and love!
Pin this image to help promote the cause, and comment below telling me what shelter you’re helping with your towel and blanket donation. Is there another way you’re giving back this holiday season? I’d love to hear about it! If you need ideas, some of my fellow Pittsburgh Style Bloggers are wrote about how they are giving back this year, too! Take a second to check out all of their posts (and get lost browsing all of their beautiful blogs!).

Thanks Sarah! The kitties at the shelter need blanket and towels too : )
So in love with Lucy in all these photos!!
Thanks Kim! It was so hard to pick one for her card, so happy I had an excuse to share the out takes!
It always breaks my heart to think of those poor pups and kitties sleeping on the concrete. Donating blankets is so easy, and such a no-brainer! Thank you for the encouragement! And Lucy looks adorable, as always!
The shelters always need lots of extra cozy stuff, thanks for the support! Happy holidays Tracy!!
