My Honest Review of B-School as a Pet Industry Entrepreneur

Although B-School is not specifically focused on the pet industry, it teaches you the foundations you need to grow an impactful business online today. And let’s be honest, even hyper-local pet service businesses need to be online these days.

No matter what you sell — pet products, services, or anything else — you need to understand how to effectively share your message, attract and convert browsers into buyers, and create outstanding customer experiences for pets and their people. 

I first enrolled in B-School in February 2020. I had just gone through a stressful time that disrupted my business and left me craving direction and support. I considered joining a mastermind group run by a successful influencer, but it was really expensive! Like over $10,000! Looking for alternatives, I discovered Marie Forleo’s B-School.

Since I was leaning toward joining a mastermind group, it was the community aspect that really sold me on the program. I enrolled through Amy Porterfield (by the way, she’s also a dog mom to Scout!) and got access to her bonuses including a Facebook group of business owners going through the course with me. 

When I first enrolled, I dove into the course and everything was going great.. until COVID hit! Because of that, I didn’t complete B-School in 2020. Luckily, students get lifetime access so I was able to go back through the live session in early 2021.

I loved going through many of the lessons a second time (get a program tour here) and seeing much of the content with fresh eyes. I learned different things because my business was in a different place than it was a year prior. Since then I wen through the course again in 2022, and this year I’m excited to see what’s new in the BRAND NEW B-School for 2023! This was the best investment I ever made in my business, because I keep going back to it and getting more value each time. 

As I went through the course in 2021, I had one complex website issue I was trying to unravel. I posted my question in the forum and not 1, but 3 expert mentors chimed in. They personally looked at my website and had a discussion with me about what would be the best move. That kind of personal attention from the expert mentors is worth a whole lot more than the cost of enrollment.

Speaking of cost… When I initially enrolled in 2020, I did the payment plan. When COVID disrupted my income, I cringed at the auto payments for a few months (to be perfectly honest!). But I can assure you, after going through the program three times and getting bonuses through the affiliate I joined with, it has been 1000% worth it! I plan to go back through again and again during future live sessions. 

This course will not teach you local regulations for pet businesses or what kind of certifications you need to work with pets. For that, I recommend you check out interviews I did with the women behind Dog Bakery Academy and the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (depending on what kind of pet biz you want to start).

But as a pet business, it’s essential that you know how to attract customers, keep them engaged even when they don’t need you and how to be smart about your time so that you can spend less time working and more time with the pets who inspired your business in the first place! B-School will teach you all of that and more.

One of my favorite things about Marie is that while she embraces social media, she really pushes her students to find more impactful ways to reach their audience. Having a great website and a healthy email list are two ways to do that. With the unpredictability of social media, I wish I had take Marie’s advice sooner and spent less time on the apps and more time creating content with real value for my audience.

The B-School Module That Had the Biggest Impact on my Pet Business

The B-School program is broken down into 6 modules. I recommend you go through them in order, taking notes and implementing the work as much as you’re able to. I’m not going to lie, it’s an intensive program! But I recommend getting through as much as you can in the 6-weeks that you have access to the mentors and live calls with Marie.

I was excited to learn about content strategy and marketing because those are in my wheelhouse and two of my favorite things to talk about.

But I surprised myself by learning the most from Profit Plan, specifically lesson 1 of module 1: Profit Clarity (that’s right, the course starts off strong!). *B-School is BRAND NEW for 2023 so module 1 is going to be full of fresh lessons to maximize profits!

I was working on the Profit Clarity fun sheet (instead of worksheets, Marie calls them fun sheets!) and realized I had not been spending my time and energy on the most profitable parts of my business.

Filling out this worksheet, I realized I’d been busting my butt trying to sell $7 bracelets in my online shop when I should focus on selling my online courses. That seems like a no-brainer, but I never had any formal business training. I figure everything out as I go! Plus, I really love the bracelets in my shop and wanted people to buy them!

Thanks to Profit Clarity I got clear on what products and services allow me to make more money and impact more people. Since going through B-School my business is more profitable. That allows me to work less and spend more time with my dogs, plus I get to give back to animal rescues more than ever!
