Podcast Episode 130: Everything You Need to Know about Instagram Reels for your Pet Business

In this week’s episode we’re diving deep into one of the news exciting features of Instagram. You’ve probably heard of Reels and seen plenty of them, but have you created one yourself yet? I’m talking to Lauren McGlade of @nelson.the.pup about everything you need to know about Instagram Reels for your pet business or pupfluencer account. She shares content ideas, trending song suggestions, as well as tips and tricks to get the most views on your videos.

At the end of this interview, I have another bonus Q&A with pet business automation expert Natasha OBanion. She’s doing a special segment with me at the end of every episode this month to get ready for a virtual summit happening in October – you’ll see many past Wear Wag Repeat Podcast guests there, including me!

Lauren McGlade is the creator of I Love Pups (@ilovepups.co) and dog mom to Nelson The Pup on Instagram. She created the I Love Pups platform as an extension of her passions for dogs and social media, to be the destination for Instadogs and their humans!

Over the last few years, she’s built several strong communities of dog-loving humans on social media, while also building relationships with top dog fashion brands.

In addition to @nelson.the.pup’s 29,000 Instagram followers, Lauren also runs the @nycdogevents community on Instagram and Facebook that helps NYC pet parents socialize and navigate pet parenting in the big apple. She’s a big believer in “community over competition” and she’s very excited to share the many tips she’s learned along the way so you, too, can grow your pet-obsessed online community.

Topics Discussed in this Episode:

  • What exactly is an Instagram Reel?
  • How Reels are different than Stories and IGTV
  • How pet business owners can use Reels
  • Whether or not hashtags work on Reels
  • Choosing appropriate music for your videos
  • Advantages of being an early adopter of new apps/features
