Sometimes people come into your life at the perfect time. That’s the case with Amanda Megara. She does so many things in the pet space, including starting her own business last year. One of her roles is foster coordinator for a local animal shelter. I was excited to be able to talk to Amanda about what to expect when fostering since I’ve committed to being a foster dog mom this year!
But that’s just a small part of this interview. We spend the bulk of the conversation talking about Amanda’s new business, Scarlett Jo’s Redemption. She educates new puppy parents and supports shelters and breeders in an effort to end early euthanasia and surrender to shelters. Working in the veterinary field and volunteering with shelters, she knows this is a problem that needs attention.
In addition to educating pet parents with an online course and membership community, I was interested to learn about the support and resources Amanda also provides to breeders. They can get inundated with inquiries and questions, so Amanda offers a service where she can weed out the people who are interested in the breed for the wrong reasons.
You’ll be inspired by the creativity that Amanda brings to her business. She saw a problem and has come up with a bunch of solutions to solve it from different angles – with pet parents, breeders and shelters. She’s really making an impact!
How Scarlett Jo’s Redemption Helps Responsible Breeders and Puppy Parents
Amanda Megara’s mission to help animals started in her teens when she worked as a kennel assistant. She worked her way up in the veterinary field from being a surgery tech to working with animals for physical therapy and currently working in sales for a veterinary supplement company.
In addition to being a foster coordinator for a local animal shelter, Amanda decided to start her own canine business last year.
Her business was inspired by a 3-week old bull terrier at the animal hospital who was facing euthanasia or owner surrender. Amanda jumped in to help the puppy and realized she needed to do more to educate pet owners so this doesn’t happen to anyone else. Her platform, Scarlett Jo’s Redemption, is where she educates pet owners and offers a service for breeders to support their puppy parent communication.
When Amanda isn’t finding ways to help the human and canine population you can find her reading entrepreneurial books, paddle boarding with her furry friends and spending time with family.
