Podcast Episode 91: How to Create a Fundraising Animal Rescue Calendar with Terran Bayer of Westway Studio

On this episode, I interview Terran Bayer, a professional pet photographer and the owner of Westway Studio. We talk about how she makes clients feel extra special through Limited Edition studio sessions around the holidays and how she partners with a local rescue to create a fundraising calendar that generates over $6,000 for pets in need each year. We also discuss her work as a commercial pet photographer and how she brings emotion into product images.

How to Create a Fundraising Animal Rescue Calendar

Terran Bayer is the Crazy Dog Mom and creative mind behind Westway Studio. She dreams of living off-the-grid high in the mountains (with high speed internet and Thai takeout, of course), and thinks road trips make the very best vacations. She’s a foodie, Netflix binger, and loves quiet nights under the stars, making s’mores over a crackling campfire.

Terran discovered her love of photography and design in high school (but we won’t talk about how long ago that was). She started her career as a graphic designer, working for businesses of all sizes, from solopreneurs to Fortune 500 companies. After adopting her pup, she fell back in love with photography and realized she was meant to be a photographer, specifically a *dog* photographer!

Now, along with her design clients, she works with private families and commercial pet brands, like West Paw and Planet Dog, to tell stories through bright, colorful, and emotional imagery.

Terran is also the co-founder of Professional Pooch, an educational resource designed to help other photographers achieve success in the quickly-growing pet photography industry… because who wouldn’t want to come home from work covered in dirt, dog hair, and slobber?

Topics Discussed in this Episode:

  • Finding photography clients when you’re first starting out
  • How to introduce a sense of urgency during the busy holiday season
  • Announcing availability and booking clients in advance
  • Finding ways for your business to give back
  • Working with corporate clients
