When it’s just too hot to go for a walk I need to find another way to entertain Lucy. I love coming up with games that challenge her mentally and get her using her amazing sense of smell. Dogs’ sense of smell is about 10,000 times better than a human!
Temps have hit the 90s this week, so I ripped open a bag of Lucy’s favorite treats in the whole wide world for a very special backyard scavenger hunt.

Backyard Scavenger Hunt with Vita Bone Artisan Inspired Dog Treats
Vita Bone® Artisan Inspired® Dog Treats are made with real meat, fruit and veggies. I especially love opening the Maple Bacon and Blueberry bag because you can really smell the blueberry! They smell so good that I’ve been tempted to try them myself… but I’ll just have to take Lucy’s word for it. She says they taste as good as they smell!
Break up your scavenger hunt treats
I broke up the treats so I could have more hiding places. This will make your game last a little longer and ensure your pup doesn’t pig out! I hid them behind potted plants, on stones and next to chair legs. If this game is new to your pup, start with some obvious places. You can get more advanced as they learn.
Waiting is the hardest part
Lucy voiced her displeasure at the waiting part of this game. I had her stay inside while I hid everything. Once I let her back out I told her to “Go Find!” and off she went!
The thrill of the hunt
Lucy had so much fun looking for the Vita Bone treats. I think it helped that they smell so amazingly good! I also had a lot of fun watching her. It was interseting to see which ones she found right away and which ones she walked right by. This one sitting on a stepping stone was the last one she ate!
I feel really good about using these for a scavenger hunt because they’re sourced and made in America by a family owned company. They have no corn, no soy, no by-products and no artificial flavors. So Lucy is allowed to have a few extras during our game!
Snout licking good!
If you’re new to Wear Wag Repeat then take a moment to check out my other Vita Bone posts, like this and this. For Lucy it was love at first sniff back in 2017. Luckily, we don’t have to save them for special occasions. These treats are really affordable and available nationwide at Walmart, walmart.com and select grocery stores, find a store near you!
