Take a Dog Friendly Hike #HealthierTogether

Having an active dog, like a Labrador, means that I go for walks and hikes all the time. I can’t imagine having a dog that didn’t need that kind of exercise. I rely on Lucy to keep me moving! Having a dog that forces me to get out and be active every day is so important to me. I know it would be hard for me to find the motivation to take a dog friendly hike without her there by my side.

Dog Friendly Hike #HealthierTogether

Over Thanksgiving weekend, between big meals with family on Thursday and Saturday I got out for a dog friendly hike with Lucy, my sister, her boyfriend and his dog, Doc. Doc doesn’t get out in the woods too often, so Lucy had a lot of fun showing him around. It’s amazing how different the dogs act during a hike in the woods versus a walk on the sidewalk. There’s so much to smell and leap over! Lucy loves running through the trees and peering out over the edge of a rocky cliff. Being out in the fresh air gives her a burst of energy and happiness, and it does for us humans too!

I’m so happy that we’re able to create healthy habits together and share them with family. Getting out for a hike gave us a chance to burn off that pumpkin pie (I made pies for people and dogs this year!) and enjoy each other’s company. If you’re not used to getting outdoors with your dog, it can be hard at first, but once you make it a habit you will love it!

It’s the same way with eating healthy. Once you start eating whole foods, fresh vegetables and vitamins you realize how great they make you feel! I’ve realized that for myself, and since I control what Lucy eats, I make sure to give her premium, high meat, grain-free pet food. We’ve been using Nulo for a few weeks now and I can tell that Lucy feels great. Not to mention how great she looks, just check out that shiny coat!

Do you pay attention to what you’re feeding your dog?

We want them to be with us for as long as possible, so I make sure to choose a food that has the best real, fresh ingredients plus added vitamins and probiotics. Nulo actually has a patented probiotic called BC30. It supports your pet’s immune system, provides improved nutrient absorption, reduces gas (Lucy is a tooter, not sure we can change that!), and prevents growth of yeast organisms that may cause skin problems and ear infections. Lucy is prone to stinky ears, and I have noticed that they are staying clearer since we started using Nulo a few weeks ago.

Nulo is now available at PetSmart, and when I went shopping for it I noticed the display was a little smaller than other brands. Well, I just learned a cool fact about that… Nulo blends are made and distributed in smaller batches to ensure they spend less time on the shelf and taste better when they land in the bowl. How great is that?!
