Shopping For: Stylish Collars for Big Dogs

It’s so hard to find cute collars that are high quality and functional for big dogs like Lola and Lucy. They both weight about 60-70 pounds, so we need a collar that is thick and sturdy enough to handle them and the streams and mud puddles they like to roll around in.

Lucy’s current collar is a hand me down, and Lola has had the same collar for about 8 years. It’s dark purple and features a break-away double D-ring. That means that if you don’t hook both the D-rings, the collar car break apart allowing her to get out of any sticky situations where the collar may get caught on something. It’s a great safely feature, but now that she’s 10 years old, I don’t know if we still need it. Plus, I’m super strict about taking their collars off when we are in the house or left alone. I definitely urge you to do the same to avoid any accidents – a dog should never be left home alone with their collar on.

So, that brings me to my current hunt. I was something that is stylish, but not too girly. I like when I can throw the collar in the washing machine, so leather is out of the question. I also like to stick with plastic clip buckles for easy on and off.

Even with all these high-maintenance requirements, I think I found the perfect line with Mimi Green. I’m in love with this line!  Their made in the USA collars feature washable nylon webbing or oilcloth, and their contoured plastic buckles fit the curves of your dog’s neck. I was totally sold when I saw all the “big dogs” featured on their site.

Now, I just have to decide which pattern to get. Can you help me? Leave your pick in the comments below!
