Weekend Hike with the Dogs in Pittsburgh’s Frick Park

I take the girls hiking in our fabulous local parks about 5 times a week. Our favorite park here in Pittsburgh is Frick Park since it is ginormous and has so many different entrances and paths that we can take a different hike every day if we want. Some days we stick to high ground to keep Lucy out of the water, and other days I’ll let her get as dirty as her heart desires in the mud and streams.

I love seeing the park at different times of year, and I think my favorite has to be Winter. We are sometimes the only people there in the middle of January and February and everything looks beautiful frozen and covered in snow. You’d also be amazed at how far you can see when the trees don’t have any leaves.

But, Summer can be great too! Everything is so saturated with green and all the trails are shaded, making it a little bit cooler than it is out on the sidewalk.

We recently found another fabulous park nearby in Sewickley that allows dogs to hike off leash! I’m looking forward to spending some more time there in the Fall – last time we went in the Summer it was so muggy!

Where do you like to take your dogs hiking?
