Podcast Episode 230: How Angela Ardolino Became The CBD for Pets Expert

Nobody has practiced more medical cannabis on pets than Angela Ardolino. Back in 2015 she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and rather than taking synthetic prescribed medications, she started taking cannabis to help with the pain. She found that it also helped relieve the stress and anxiety around her diagnosis. She was so impressed that she sold her business at the time and threw herself into the cannabis industry.

In her research, Angela learned that dogs have more cannabinoid receptors than humans do, making CBD even more effective for them. And this is how she found her passion for combining cannabis and animals.

However… this was in 2016 and she had to wait to launch her business until the Farm Bill passed 2 years later. While she waited, Angela bought a dog grooming salon. What she saw working there is that about 70% of dogs who came in were suffering – from diabetes, rashes, anxiety and other things.

Buying the grooming shop turned out to be the perfect coincidence because she was able to spend those 2 years developing and sampling her line of all-natural CBD salves and tinctures with her furry customers and talking to pet parents about them.

This conversation covers her business journey and how to choose the right CBD products for your dogs. We also touch on medicinal mushrooms, which is turning out to be quite the hot topic of the past few weeks.

If you enjoy this episode, make sure to listen to 228 with Sarah Grace Newhall of Dog Love Oils and 229 with Aisha LuVert of Emisha Animal Wellness. These three episodes will get you informed on essential oils, medicinal mushrooms and CBD for your pets.

This Petpreneur Teaches Veterinarians How to Use CBD for Pets

Angela Ardolino is a holistic pet expert and educator who has been caring for animals for over 20 years. Angela owns and operates Fire Flake Farm, an animal rescue farm, as well as two locations of her natural pet salon and shop Beautify the Beast.

She’s also the founder and formulator of CBD Dog Health, which offers high quality, all-natural cannabis health and wellness products for pets; Your Natural Dog, an online marketplace for natural pet products hand-picked by trusted holistic vets & pet experts; and MycoDog, which creates and produced high-quality medicinal mushroom and adaptogen tinctures designed specifically for pets.

In 2015, Angela was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and knew that she needed to find alternatives to the medications being offered to her. After learning about the benefits of cannabis and experiencing the life-changing results firsthand, Angela set out to destigmatize medical cannabis and CBD oil so she could spread awareness around its holistic healing powers.

As an advocate for medical cannabis and earned a professional certification in Medical Cannabis for therapeutic use from the University of Vermont, College of Medicine. While receiving her certification, Angela became active in Women Grow and United for Care, and served as an outspoken advocate for safe, natural, ethically-grown hemp and medical cannabis for human and animal use.

At this time she wasn’t able to find any full spectrum medicinal products for pets on the market. So with her knowledge in herbs, essential oils and adaptogens she created CBD Dog Health to begin formulating full spectrum hemp tinctures, salves and treats for pets.

Since the company’s launch in 2018, Angela has helped thousands of pets heal naturally from seizures, IVDD, Allergies, Arthritis, Degenerative Myelopathy, and many forms of cancer. Angela’s record breaker is her Doberman Nina, who was diagnosed 2 years ago with Osteosarcoma. With the help of cannabis and medicinal mushrooms, she outlived her veterinarian’s estimates.

Because of the success Angela experienced treating sick and geriatric dogs on her rescue with combinations of adaptogenic herbs and mushrooms, she began formulating MycoDog tinctures to make it simpler to treat pets who are suffering from ailments and diseases that affect them later in life, like canine cognitive disease, cancer and autoimmune diseases.

To see Angela on her rescue farm today, surrounded by animals, is to truly see her in her element. Looking at this furry, joyful family you would never suspect that Angela and her pets were once full of aches, pains and anxiety. Angela is the mother to Odie (15-year-old mini-schnauzer), Jolene (9-year-old mutt), Maza (9-year-old mutt), Rhemi (10-year-old poodle), multiple ducks, roosters, chickens and geese, plus pigs Ellie and Penelope, Brenda the one-legged pigeon, and the many dogs that she fosters from time-to-time at Fire Flake Farm.
