DIY How To Match Your Dog Bed To Your Decor

Did you know that most dogs sleep 12-14 hours per day? Lucy is probably at the higher end of the spectrum! She loves to nap on the couch in my office, on her bed in my room and most recently on the new dog cot that we got from Carlson Pet Products.

I decided to make a DIY dog blanket to put on top to tie the bed into the decor of my living room which has lots of pink, turquoise and some orange. Read on to see how you can DIY a blanket to match your dog bed to your decor!

Since my living room is very colorful I wanted an easy and affordable way to tie the gray dog cot into my room. Lucy thought it was pretty comfortable on it’s own, so this was more for me!

To make the dog blanket you’ll need:
-1 1/2 yards of two different fleeces. I choose one fun pattern and one solid so that the blanket is reversible.
-Scissors
-Ruler
-Pins
-Sewing Machine prepped with matching thread
-Rotary Cutter + Self Healing Mat (optional)

I started out by laying the two fleeces on top of each other (with good sides facing out on both) and trimming off the selvage edges and any excess. You want them to match up perfectly. Then I went around all four sides and marked 5 inches in with straight pins.

I sewed a straight line all the way around. Then I got out my rotary cutter (it looks like a pizza cutter!) and cut fringe 2 inches apart all the way around. I’ve made fringed fleece blankets in the past by just cutting the strips with scissors, but my rotary cutter was so much faster and easier!

And that’s it folks! This is a very easy DIY and a great way to bring some personalized color to our new dog bed.

Lucy jumped right up on the bed as soon as I set it up. It folds together like a folding chair that you might take camping or to a sporting event. So when we’re not using it, or I need more room, I can just fold it up and stick it in the corner behind that pink chair.

According to the Carlson website, when this bed is folded up it will actually fit in a standard sized suitcase! So you could take it along on your next trip with your pup.

The frame of the cot is made of an all-steel construction, so it’s very sturdy. Plus the edges are reinforced for added security and comfort. As with everything I get for Lucy, I had to test this out myself! I reclined on the cot for a few minutes and it was so comfortable. Your weight is distributed so evenly, it almost felt like one of those zero gravity chairs!

Our photoshoot didn’t last long because Lucy fell asleep on the job! I think she really liked how she could drape her paw and her chin over the edge. Our cute and colorful DIY Blanket is just the icing on top!
