A Year of Pet Business Content Ideas: How to Find The Right Topics to Cover

Evergreen content is your secret weapon in the pet industry, and it’s an essential part of any pet business content ideas. This is the content that stays fresh and relevant, regardless of the current trends or seasons. It doesn’t matter if you’re reading this blog post in January or July; the pet industry content strategies I’ll be sharing here will work for your pet business year-round.

This type of evergreen content for pet bloggers and businesses is fantastic for SEO, helping your website get discovered by your ideal clients on search engines.

This strategy is a sample of a lesson I taught in my membership, the Wear Wag Repeat Society. If you’re a woman in the pet industry who is interested in creating content for pet businesses and wants to grow your business online, this membership is exactly what you’ve been looking for!

Each month we have an online marketing theme like blogging, email marketing, Pinterest, short-form video, copywriting, and more, providing an array of pet business blogging tips.

These lessons are taught by me and a roster of impressive guest experts like Liz Wilcox (have you heard of her email marketing membership? It’s life-changing!).

Engage Your Pet Parent Audience for Content Inspiration

Diving into a Year of Engaging Pet Business Content Ideas

Thinking about unique and relevant themes every month might seem daunting, but I promise you, it’s simpler than you might imagine.

A good starting point is to look at your own products and services:

  • Do you offer grooming? Make a theme about maintaining your pet’s coat and skin health.
  • Do you sell organic dog treats? Dedicate a month to exploring the benefits of natural ingredients.
  • Are you a dog trainer? Focus on greeting manners in all kinds of scenarios.

To keep your content fresh and engaging, I recommend brainstorming 12 themes related to your brand or niche as part of your pet industry content strategies. You can either dedicate a whole month to each of these themes or rotate them throughout each month.

This approach ensures that you cover a wide range of topics while maintaining focus and consistency in your content.

For the examples in this post, I will use:

  • senior pets
  • dog food
  • canine enrichment.

When your audience sees the content you create, you want them to instantly recognize it and think, “that’s a Tori post!” Of course.. they’ll pop your name or business in instead of mine!

This strategy prevents you from posting random, unrelated content that typically underperforms because it’s not what your audience expects from you.

Year of Engaging Pet Business Content Ideas

Google’s “People Also Ask” is a Gold Mine for Pet Business Content Ideas

The “People Also Ask” section on Google is a treasure trove of pet business content ideas. Pay attention to the language people use in their questions. Using this same language in your content can make it feel more personal and relatable.

For example, if a common question is, “Why does my dog eat grass?” You can create a blog post titled “The Surprising Reasons Your Dog Eats Grass.”

Engage Your Pet Parent Audience for Content Inspiration

Your audience is one of your best resources for engaging pet blog ideas. After all, they are the ones consuming your content!

Actively involving your audience in the content creation process can lead to more relevant and engaging material. Social media platforms, especially Instagram and Facebook, are perfect for running polls or asking questions.

Remember to value every piece of feedback you receive. Each comment, message, or survey response is a potential gold nugget for your content strategy – and could be a new blog post idea!

When you ask your audience questions, you create content that genuinely interests and helps them.

Focus on Specific Pet-Related Content

I’d like to emphasize the importance of getting specific with your content. Remember, your readers come to you for your expertise in the pet industry. They want detailed, actionable advice they can use.

For example, instead of just writing a post about “Tips for training your dog,” delve into more specific topics like:

  • “How to house train your puppy in 3 easy steps”
  • “Effective methods for loose leash walking with your dog.”
  • “Stressfree Walks with your Reactive Dog: How to Start Training”

The more specific you are in your blog posts and social media content, the more value you provide to your target audience.

Pet-Related Content Examples found using “People Also Ask”

I used Google’s “People Also Ask” feature to find some test searches to illustrate this concept and make it easy to understand.

You’ll be amazed at how simple it is to come up with pet business content ideas once you start searching!

These pet-related search terms can be your starting point for social media posts, email newsletters, blog posts, and even digital download products. Let’s take a look at what Google helped me find!

Example 1: What to Feed My Dog

For the theme “dog food”, I popped that term in Google and came across questions like:

  • “Are grain-free diets good for dogs?”
  • “How often should I feed my puppy?”
  • “What is human-grade dog food?”

Each of these questions can turn into a comprehensive blog post, a detailed infographic, or a series of social media posts, providing your audience with valuable information about dog nutrition.

When you provide detailed content answering these questions, you stand a better chance of showing up in Google results.

But the big win is that you’ll be able to help real pet parents with the questions they’re honestly asking!

Example 2: Senior Dogs

Another theme you might explore is senior pets.

For a blog post on this topic, consider addressing questions such as:

  • “How many hours of sleep do senior dogs need”
  • “What happens if senior dogs don’t get enough exercise”
  • “How to keep your senior dog active and healthy”.

You could include expert quotes from a veterinarian or a supplement brand you trust. By providing specific, actionable advice, you create content that genuinely benefits your readers.

When it comes to senior pets, you can also create content about the emotional aspects of caring for older pets.

For that angle, you might answer questions like:

  • “How to deal with the grief of losing a pet?”
  • “How to help a pet adjust to a loss in the family?”

I’ve been meaning to write several blog posts on that theme because I know how much they can help pet parents when they face that life stage (because I’ve been there!).

Use these Pet Business Content Ideas to Plan Your Content Calendar

Once you’ve gathered your topics and questions using Google’s “People Also Ask” feature, create a content calendar to help you stay organized and on track.

I swear by content calendars – they help keep me focused and on track!

You can use a physical calendar with assigned due dates or a digital tool like Google Docs to reference your plan on a monthly or weekly basis. Online tools like Trello or Airtable can also help you organize your content and monitor your progress.

There are some great suggestions here. I’m also a HUGE fan of using the “people also ask” section when I’m figuring out what topics I’m going to cover. Where else are you going to see a literal list of questions people are actually searching just waiting for you to step in and answer them?
